Introduction to Ninjute Kempo

Back in April 2011 I had spent much of the past 15 years of my life with ever increasing disability.  I had tried to train in karate with different style and different instructors in the past.  Now fast forward to present day I have now had 2 major surgeries to correct this disability (my left foot)  After all these years of trying different martial arts and not being able to really do them well and being very frustrated with what little progress I was making in the overall scheme of things because of the foot issue.  Now that the foot was repaired it was time to seek the style I had been interested in all along but coming from a small town I was never able to train in it because no one taught it.  Everywhere I looked it was Tae Kwon Do or Tang Soo Do both styles are great for physical conditioning and sport competition however, I  was looking for something that due to my foot and the inability to run away from trouble if I got into that type of situation I needed a style that whether if the fight was stand up or on the ground I would be competent in defending myself.

Ironically I moved out of my small town and moved to Richmond, VA and since one of my favorite movies of all time was Bloodsport and the style that used in that movie was Ninjitsu.  I decided to Google Richmond, VA Ninjitsu and sure enough I found a dojo and specifically an instructor that taught this style and in fact had created his own style called Ninjute Kempo.

Having trained at several dojos over the years I was very skeptical at first, the typical dojo you simply go about repeating the same movements and move up and down the mat.  Like I said its great for conditioning and for competitive sports but I needed something that I could count on if I ever got into a situation where I needed to be able to fight standing up or on the ground.  I took part in my first class and was introduced to Grandmaster Kevin Cain.  Needless to say,  Ive never been the same since.  You learn techniques right from the start that the very first class no matter what your physical conditioning is, you learn to use what you have at that moment to defend yourself.  Each and every class your presented with real life scenerios and trained on how to use what you have learned and your own attributes to defend yourself.

One of the most privileged parts of this short story is this.  Grandmaster Kevin Cain is a personal student of Hanshi Frank W. Dux.  That’s right!  The man for whom the film “Bloodsport” was based on.  Grandmaster Kevin Cain has been personally trained and certified by 10Th Great Grandmaster Frank W. Dux in Dux Ninjitsu, a style that many professionals the world over consider the best self defense system in the world.  So it’s a true honor to be able to train with someone who has trained with Hanshi Dux.   I will continue to blog regarding my Ninjute Kempo experience as I’m an avid support of Grandmaster Kevin Cain.

Grandmaster Cain is perhaps the best instructor in the martial arts that I have ever had as well.  He takes the time and has incredible patience and makes sure that you have fun in the class as well as absorb the enormous amount of knowledge that he possesses.  If you want to learn to learn self-defense at its best and feel part of a family check out rvaninja.com  Stay tuned more on the way.
