Don’t Swat at Flies
The phrase, “Don’t Swat at Flies,” is a mantra I often repeat to my students who make attempts to reach out and block or jam a blow.  Reaching out for every blow to try and block it, does nothing more than allow the attacker to gain time and space, thus; closing the reactionary gap.  In the end, reaching for the block or jam will inevitably end with you getting hit by your attackers blow.  However, if you enter with the iron guard, putting the attacker in close quarters, you will be able to attack the opponent instead of reacting to him.  Reaction is always slower than action, thus it is imperative that you deploy the correct strategy and tactics in order to win the engagement.  We should expect to take some blows in order to capture the opponent’s triangle of force, but to be disillusioned and believe that we should be able to stop a blow by reaching in and/or blocking and jamming and opponent is a losing proposition.  We want to utilize strategies that stack the deck in our favor.  This is a stark difference between a genuine and a” mcdojo” ninja gym.
Iron Guard
I recently read an article by a ninja gym representative about jamming.  To jam or not to jam, that is the question. The author of the article on jamming states, “to move towards your attacker when he attacks,” at first glance, this seems like a logical counter attack.  If one were to use the iron guard then I would be inclined to agree.  However, the author leaves himself open for an upper cut.  Due to the extended time and space via the laws of physics, when you create distance, as shown by the author, you automatically put space and time between you and the attacker.  In doing this, you create a more direct path to an open gate.
The iron guard on the other hand, takes away space, thus closing a wide and direct path to any open gates.  The author goes into the center of the body, thus putting himself into the attacker’s triangle of force.  When this happens, you must dominate the center line of the attacker.  It is much more advantageous to enter with the iron guard, thus naturally jamming the attacker due to elimination of space and time.  When utilizing the iron guard, what appears to be a jam or block is really an attack.  Shooting the correct angle of evasion which depends on the placement of the outside gate, and using MESH (Mirror, Evasion, Stop, Hit), one will be able to not only jam but also be able to intercept the opponent.  When using the iron guard, as opposed to the jam, one covers the missing elements in the techniques presented by the author.  Lest we forget that the proper technique for the jam motion is a stunning strike to the neck.  If for some reason you encounter a “mcdojo” ninja gym instructor/trainer, who tries the jam on you, remember the upper cut and cut them down to size.  Always seek the real deal and not a “mcdojo” ninja gym, where one waters down the authentic teaching of the masters.
DUX Ryu Cain Family NinJuTe Kempo
My personal expression of the arts is called NinJuTe Kempo.  It is a multidiscipline, reality based, mixed martial art.  With its focus based upon integration of strategy, skills and tactics.  I break down the arts of Ninjutsu, Jiu-Jitsu, Dante and Kempo to present this art.  I also break up the teaching methodology of NinJuTe Kempo into three categories: The adult curriculum of both students and instructors, the snake pit (MMA/sport curriculum), and Game Plan (Programming for at risk youth).  Each of these methodologies has its own skill set and teaching method.  This is a highly developed system meant to bring both reality based concepts, traditional martial arts, combat sport and at risk programs together.
What does Ninjute Kempo bring to the table for Raven Tactical Instructors?
The answer is a complete white to black belt program.  A program completely endorsed by Frank Dux and Fernan Vargas.  Raven Method is the Leo training used in NinJuTe Kempo and it is the perfect combination.  Dux Ryu Cain Family NinJuTe Kempo and the Raven Method have joined forces to present the double impact seminar series.  Now, not only can you become certified in the Raven Leo program but you can also become certified in NinJuTe Kempo.  Everything an instructor needs to offer a complete system is presented in this program.  Each double Impact seminar is meant to bring your knowledge to instructor level.  Every instructor level gives you access to three belt levels.  The instructor has 24 months to complete the instructor’s course and achieve first degree black belt in NinJuTe Kempo.  The black belt tests are conducted at the yearly Dux Ryu Cain Family convention and the instructor tests in front of Frank Dux and Kevin Cain.  This gives you a chance to earn true martial skills, not watered down imitations offered on the internet.  This is not a “mcdojo” ninja gym but rather a genuine representation of the master’s teachings.  It is my interpretation, my expression and it is what I call Dux Ryu Cain Family NinJuTe Kempo.
